FDR The Greatest President?

No. (none / 0)

Bill Clinton is the greatest president.

I don't like FDR because of his conduct over Pearl Harbor when he withheld information from the Navy that an attack was imminent. I also found his coddling of Stalin particularly repugnant.

I don't get you. (none / 0)

You're thoroughly Naderite in your political views, but you have this apparent adoration for the Clintons. What, other than political acumen, makes them so great?

Slick Willy sold out this country, helped the corporatists get through policies that his Reep predecessors couldn't, and managed to leave the Dem party dripping with his sticky legacy.

What do you like so much about him?

Yeah, I'm cynical.

Well, I'm a big Clinton fan.

But I would rank FDR ahead of him.

Re: I don't get you. (none / 0)

I wouldn't say I am a Naderite. I may agree with SOME of his views, particularly campaign finance reform and the environment, but I'd hardly call myself a follower. I admire the man because he is principled and consistent, plus he's done much good for society in his battles in the past. However, I do not agree at all with his views on the war (immediate withdrawal). I do believe in the importance of breaking this two party system, so I could be convinced to support him or Badnarik -- another I admire -- if they had any real chance at breaking 5%.

As for Clinton, most of my fiscal and foreign policy goals are aligned with his. I also share his view on trade as a historically liberal ideal that the republicans have jumped on board of in the last 15 years. Also, most of my socially liberal ideals are near his, or at least can live with his policies. I think he's a great president and I'd have voted for him in 2000 and 2004 if I could have. I support Hillary mostly because she'll bring Bill with her and I believe he'd be a great influence in her presidency.

John F. Kennedy was (3.00 / 1)

FDR did nothing on race relations in United States.  His Chief Justice had in 1941 had a number of civil rights cases before the court and he took a nill on those issues.  He also was a cabinet member under Woodrow Wilson the most racist president of the U.S.  Also, the Dixiecrat party in the South was supportive of him.  Yea FDR did things on economic matters like Woodrow Wilson did but he did not sooth like JFK did the racial divide in America.  He took a pass, by nominating Supreme Court justices that did such things.  John F. Kennedy when comfronted with the issue stood up to the Dixiecrats in the South.

And Jefferson owned slaves so he was a terrible President. Democrats should probably stop having Jefferson-Jackson day dinners.

Well, it doesn't excuse FDR, though.

And I say that feeling that FDR is one of the top 3 presidents in my view.

FDR was great (3.00 / 1)

Definitely in the top two. Bill Clinton, while good, was not the greatest, although NAFTA and GATT were big winners during his administration. JFK was great, even though he had a "roving eye". It's very hard to say who was the greatest president. My top five;
1, Lincoln, (Today he would be a moderate Dem.)
2, FDR, (The liberal icon)
3, Washington, (Who can argue with this??)
4, Kennedy, (Oh what could have been)
5, Clinton, (Just because Reps. hated him)
